Latin American countries have always been too important a part of climate governance. Major countries have also pledged to neutralize carbon emissions.

*Mexico

will reduce carbon emissions by 22% and will reduce black carbon emissions by 51% by 2030. Lithium battery electric vehicles imported into Mexico were duty-free, as confirmed by the Ministry of the Economy. Among the proposals of the unions as a complement to encourage the EV market is the implementation of a 0% VAT rate and the 100% income deduction of the investment made for the acquisition of an EV.

*Colombia

will reduce carbon emissions by 51% by 2030 and will reduce black carbon emissions by 40% compared to 2014. Decree No. 2051 of 2019 stipulates that the tariff rate for imported new energy electric vehicles will be reduced to 0% and import quota restrictions will be lifted. Valdivieso, Vice Minister of Commerce and Industry of Colombia, said that this measure is in line with the national interests of Colombia, promotes the replacement of vehicles, reduces emissions of carbon dioxide and particulate matter, and seriously implements the Paris Agreement

*Brazil

37% reduction by 2025 and 40% reduction by 2030 from 2005 levels. The Brazilian Ministry of Commerce approved Regulation No. 97, which will reduce the tax rate on lithium battery products to 0% at as of 2016.

Argentina:

will reduce carbon emissions by 27.7% until 2030. The Argentine government resumes preferential tariffs to import new energy vehicles, for example lithium batteries. Decree 331 of May 2017 allows automakers to pay only a 2% tariff to import lithium battery electric vehicles.
